This Privacy Notice explains how UNESCO-TWAS uses the personal data we collect from you when you submit your online Microsoft Teams form to register in the Newsletter (https://forms.office.com/r/xqUGG0H61f)
What data do we collect?
UNESCO-TWAS collects the following data, included in the Science in Exile online form for the Newsletter: personal identification data you directly provide in the form, i.e. name, surname, email address, organization.
How do we collect your data?
We collect data and process data when you voluntarily complete and submit the online form.
How will we use your data?
We will use your data to:
- Subscribe you to the Science in Exile newsletter, if in the form you replied “yes” to the question “Do you give your consent to UNESCO-TWAS to include your email address in the Science in Exile Listserve newsletter? Please note that with no consent, you cannot be subscribed to the newsletter.”
- Contact you for specific activities related to the Science in Exile initiative (e.g. to invite you to attend or speak at events).
- Compile statistics on the Science in Exile initiative, e.g. how many people are subscribed to the Science in Exile newsletter. In this case, your data will be processed anonymously.
We may make your data available outside UNESCO-TWAS, to the other partners of the Science in Exile initiative, i.e. the InterAcademy Partnership (IAP) and the International Science Council (ISC). In such cases, the data will be treated by IAP and ISC as above.
How do we store your data?
UNESCO-TWAS securely stores your data at UNESCO-TWAS premises (Trieste, Italy) or on cloud services used by UNESCO. Your data will not be published for general access. UNESCO, however, assumes no responsibility for the security of this information.
Data you provided in the online form is kept until (2) two years after you submitted the form.
You can request to have your data removed from our databases at any time by emailing displacedscientists@twas.org
Changes to our Privacy Notice
We will revise or update this Notice if our practices change, or as we develop better ways to keep you informed about them. Please refer back to this page often for the latest information and the effective date of any changes. If we decide to change this Notice, we will post a new Notice on our website and change the date at the bottom. Changes to the Notice shall not apply retroactively.

You may request access to your personal data in order to verify its accuracy and may request correction. To do so in connection with your use of the online form, please contact displacedscientists@twas.org.
